Domremy College

Welcome from our Principal

Domremy College Five Dock was founded by the Presentation Sisters in 1911 and is named in honour of the birthplace of St Joan of Arc, the patron saint of the Parish of Haberfield, to which Domremy is closely linked.

Nano Nagle founded the original society in 1775 in Ireland which became known as the Presentation Sisters. It is in the spirit of Nano Nagle’s determination and selflessness that at Domremy College we inspire and encourage our girls to carry Christ’s light forward.

Set on beautiful grounds with a number of stunning heritage buildings and new and iconic state of the art learning facilities with a contemporary library, Domremy stands for excellence, tradition, faith and service to others.

Domremy is a place of infinite possibilities. With an explicit focus on girls’ education, the College prides itself on creating opportunities and experiences that build courageous, independent young women ready to take on the world with a strong growth mindset.

Domremy College is a comprehensive high school with a strong focus on the spiritual, academic, social and physical development of our students.

Domremy is a vibrant and dynamic community. We are deeply committed to working with parents to develop in their girls a strength of character that enables them to embrace their future with confidence, determination, hope and compassion.

The students and staff look forward to welcoming you at Domremy College.

Mrs Antoinette McGahan, College Principal

La Verite'

At Domremy College we are committed to the education and development of the whole person in the Presentation tradition. We value commitment to faith, service, academic achievement and involvement in co-curricular activities. Our merit system, based on our College motto, La Verite, has been designed to encourage students to not only achieve their potential in their area of strength, but to also challenge themselves in other areas that they may find more challenging. Our hope is that all graduates of Domremy College will be well equipped to contribute to the positive transformation of the society in which they find themselves living.

Growth Mindset Learning Philosophy

Domremy College has adopted the concept of growth mindset as the basis for our learning philosophy. According to Carol Dweck, author of Mindset: the New Psychology of Success, individuals who possess a growth mindset understand that persistence and hard work are required to improve one’s learning. Those with a growth mindset believe that their talents and abilities can be developed through effort, good teaching and persistence.

Learning about growth mindset is important for all individuals not just for students. In order to embrace learning, a community must place high expectations on learning for all members of the community. Growth mindset learners are more motivated to learn, demonstrate more effort and outperform those with a fixed mindset.

In our experience adolescent girls, particularly those who possess a fixed mindset, lack confidence and resilience and give up easily when the learning becomes more challenging. Teaching for a growth mindset can assist us to develop confident, resilient and persistent learners. It is for these reasons that Domremy College chooses to be a growth mindset school.

Wellbeing

The wellbeing of all students is at the heart of Catholic Education enabling a learning environment which provides for the spiritual, physical, emotional, cognitive and social growth of its students and staff. At Domremy College the staff are committed to assist your daughter mature in every area - spiritually, intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally.

Wellbeing is understood as a sustainable state characterised by positive relationships at school, positive attitudes, resilience, being able to maximise strengths and high levels of satisfaction with learning experiences (e.g. Noble and Wyatt, 2008). Wellbeing is best promoted in a safe and supportive school.

Parent support for, and involvement in, their children's education is a critical factor in student engagement, achievement and wellbeing. At Domremy College, staff work in partnership with parents to ensure the best possible outcome is achieved for each girl.
