Brigidine College St Ives

Strength and Gentleness

Brigidine College St Ives in a Catholic Independent School for girls Years 7 to 12. Situated on a leafy campus on Sydneys North Shore, Brigidine College prides itself on its capacity to nurture young girls, engage them in their learning, provide diverse opportunities for extension and instill values that enrich their perspective on life and their place within.

Young women should graduate from Brigidine feeling capable and confident about their future. They should feel willing and able to make a difference in the world and know they can achieve this in the calm, self-assured manner that is encapsulated in the Brigidine motto of Fortiter et Suaviter.

This challenges our students to be Women of Strength, Women of Gentleness; though seemingly opposing virtues, they are complementary notions of moral courage and consideration of others.

Religious identity

Religious education at the College offers your daughter the opportunity to explore her beliefs, making sense of her life and the world in which she lives.

Religion is a subject that is studied from Year 7 to Year 12, and your daughter will be invited to build upon her faith through regular prayer, Eucharistic and liturgical celebrations, retreats and reflection days.

Our girls are encouraged to give expression to their beliefs and faith in action, by reaching out to the community, striving for justice and compassion, and making a difference in others lives through community service, social action, charities and special projects.

Learning is life-long and today it is important that girls receive an education that allows them to take their place in society as global citizens. In a time of great change, our young women need to develop skills so that they can adapt to jobs that have yet to be created, to technologies not yet developed and to relationships yet to be explored.

Brigidine girls are inspired and challenged - not only to outstanding academic success, but also to sporting excellence, faith development and support for social justice issues and service to others. Brigidine College is a school which prides itself on its spirit of inclusion, welcoming each girl to achieve her best, participate in a diverse range of interesting activities and develop a clear sense of the difference they can make in their world.

Teaching methods that accommodate different learning styles, different interests, and different needs in collaborative frameworks and flexible spaces supported by the latest innovations in learning technology motivate our girls to engage in quality learning. Committed teachers support them in their endeavors, facilitating ways to achieve their goals and challenging them to seek deeper knowledge and understanding of their world.

And so much more...

It is a given that girls will enjoy their learning at Brigidine and achieve the best results possible.

However, it is 'all the rest' or the hidden curriculum that is a vital and integral part of the culture of our College. And this is what you will feel when you visit us.

School is more than sitting behind a desk for six periods a day. Students are enriched by the co-curricular programs offered: by the opportunities to compete in a sporting team; play in a musical ensemble; perform in the drama productions; achieve in the Duke of Edinburgh award; sing in the musicals; debate; raise money for charity; and enjoy the connection and attachment that grows from participating in all these activities.

Pastoral Care

In our College, every member of staff has the chance to know your daughter as an individual. The needs of each girl are supported to give her a sense of belonging and connectedness.

An all-embracing pastoral care program encourages personal responsibility for ones own behaviour, as well as care for others. Mentor groups meet daily to provide an important avenue of communication and a vital starting point for the wellbeing and spirituality of each girl.

A Mentor teacher provides guidance and individual mentoring for each student within the group, and is often the first point of contact for you as parents. Year Coordinators and Counsellors work with the Assistant Principal, Pastoral, to monitor the academic and social progress of your daughter and to provide emotional and spiritual support.

In Partnership with Parents

When your daughter joins Brigidine College, your family also becomes a valuable member of the supportive school community. Parent involvement may take many forms: convening a sporting club, assisting at a drama or music production or in the College shop, providing hospitality at College cultural and sporting events, or serving on the College Board. Besides formal communication at parent and teacher meetings, information evenings, reports and newsletters, there are informal occasions such as cocktail parties, supper clubs and dinners adding a rich social dimension to your familys journey at Brigidine.

We are proud that parents, as the primary educators of our young women, form powerful partnerships with teachers and other staff. Their contribution and participation enriches the daily life of the College and strengthens our communitys sense of connectedness.

Together we celebrate the growth of Brigidine girls into young women of the future.
