Newington College Lindfield K-6

Our School

Lindfield K–6 is a single stream school for boys and girls from Kindergarten to Year 6 with an exceptional sense of community. The school currently caters for approximately 200 students.

Located in the leafy suburb of Lindfield, the campus is set amidst beautiful bushland. Students learn and play in nature every day.

At Lindfield K–6 we support a learning environment that encourages an enthusiastic approach to learning. Each student is valued for their unique capacity to contribute to the life of the College.

We are passionate about providing an education that is challenging, engaging and relevant for our young men. To support this initiative Lindfield K–6 teaches the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Strong links with the Secondary campus at Stanmore ensure the transition to Year 7 at Newington College is smooth and well-supported.

Caring for Our Students

Visitors to our school regularly remark upon the warmth and friendliness of both the students and staff at Lindfield. When a child joins Lindfield, we do more than enrol a student – we take in the whole family.

We believe that being a diverse community enriches us all.
Our ‘Well-being Program’ teaches our students about mutual care and respect: respect for oneself, respect for others, and respect for the environment. We seek to promote empathy and tolerance and encourage understanding of difference. Our educators support our students to come to a better understanding of themselves and the world around them so that they can learn to accept responsibilities and develop leadership skills.

At Lindfield, we provide a nurturing, caring and supportive environment for our students, while also encouraging them to take on new challenges and learn from their mistakes. We teach our students life-long social and emotional skills that empower them to deal with problems proactively and to remain resilient in the face of any setbacks.

Learning and Teaching Program

Newington College is dedicated to helping each student realise their potential. Each student deserves to work at the edge of their competence and to be challenged and stretched so that they can grow.

Our learning program balances academic achievement, personal development and social responsibility.

Our teachers are committed to understanding each student’s learning patterns and ability. Students are supported through challenging task and develop resourcefulness and resilience while they learn.

We provide a Gifted and Talented program to extend students who have already achieved the prescribed outcomes. Our Learning Enhancement program provides excellent support for our students regardless of their pace of learning.

A strong focus on literacy, numeracy and inquiry gives students the skills to use their imagination, communicate, problem solve and make informed, empathetic decisions about personal and social issues.

International Baccalaureate Programme

At Lindfield K–6, we are passionate about providing a learning environment that is challenging, engaging and relevant for our young men. To support this, we offer the International Baccalaureate’s (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).

The PYP is a student-centred, inquiry-based learning framework that encourages students to grow in international-mindedness; develop learning skills and take responsibility for their education. It encourages deep conceptual understanding, action-oriented and reflective learning and global-mindedness.

The PYP provides specialist learning experiences in Religious Education, Art, Music, Languages (Mandarin) and Health and Physical Education.

The PYP provides the perfect framework for learning and teaching at Lindfield because it encourages students to recognise links between subject areas, develop the skills required for independent learning and to consider ‘real life’ issues, both locally and globally.

Technology

At Newington College we believe that technology plays an integral role in helping students learn. We use technology to create new forms of engagement, interaction and growth.

Our teachers use technology to enrich learning, leaving them with skills, tools and ways of thinking that will be beneficial well beyond their schooling at Lindfield. Interactive whiteboards, iPads, digital cameras and interactive response systems are a part of learning for every child.

Students also learn about cyber safety and the importance of keeping personal information safe when online.

Co-curricular Activities

Lindfield Prep offers a wide range of co-curricular programs throughout the year. Students are encouraged to try new things, to develop their skills and talents in different areas and to showcase their ‘personal best’.

As well as comprehensive sport and music programs, Wyvern offers Interschool chess competitions, a creative and performing arts (CAPA) club, Interschool debating competitions, public speaking, robotics, photography and Martial Arts clubs, Milo Cricket and Auskick AFL.

Our Co-curricular program gives students the opportunity to engage with a broad range of ideas that add richness to the school day.
