Newington College Lindfield K–6

Our School

Lindfield K–6 prides itself on being a non-selective, single stream school for boys from Kindergarten to Year 6. The school currently caters for approximately 200 boys.

Located in the leafy suburb of Lindfield, the campus is set amidst beautiful bushland. The boys learn and play in nature every day.

Lindfield K–6 is a multicultural community where boys and families from all different backgrounds are welcomed and celebrated. The parent community is extremely supportive and actively involved in all aspects of the boys’ learning.
At Lindfield K–6 we seize every opportunity to nurture a learning environment that draws on each student’s innate qualities of enthusiasm and optimism. Each boy is valued for his unique capacity to contribute to the life of the College.

We are passionate about providing an education that is challenging, engaging and relevant for our young men. To support this initiative Lindfield K–6 is authorised to deliver the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years Programme (PYP) to all classes.

Strong links with the Secondary campus at Stanmore ensure the transition to Year 7 at Newington College is smooth and well-supported.

Caring for Our Boys

Visitors to our school regularly remark upon the warmth and friendliness of both the students and staff at Lindfield. When a boy joins Lindfield, we do more than enrol a student – we take in the whole family.

We believe that being a diverse community enriches us all and we seek to promote empathy and tolerance and encourage understanding of difference.

Our ‘Well-being Program’ teaches our boys about mutual care and respect: respect for oneself, respect for others, and respect for the environment.

We support our boys to come to a better understanding of themselves and the world around them so that they can learn to accept responsibilities and develop leadership skills.

Our Well-being program is supported by the meaningful relationships forged between our boys and their teachers, our teachers and other staff members and between our school and your family. The Chaplain and the School Counsellor work closely with the boys and are happy to work with families on all academic, social and personal matters.

As parents and educators, we seek to maintain a balance between providing a nurturing, caring and supportive environment while also encouraging our boys to have new experiences, take on new challenges and learn from their mistakes. We teach our boys life-long social and emotional skills that empower them to deal with problems proactively and to remain resilient in the face of any setbacks.

Learning and Teaching Program

Newington College is dedicated to excellence in education for boys and helping each child realise their potential.

We provide a comprehensive curriculum that balances the spiritual, academic, cultural, physical and practical areas of learning. We aim to achieve a balance between academic achievement, personal development and social responsibility.

Each student deserves to work at the edge of their competence, to be challenged and stretched so that they can grow.

Our teachers have an unwavering commitment to understanding each student’s learning patterns and ability. This ensures that high expectations are set and met and that teaching is tailored to every student’s needs. High expectations and challenges are balanced with the right amount of support, geared towards helping students to think.

Our teachers keep content relevant to help students learn and provide engaging guidance to offer support and encourage growth.

We provide a Gifted and Talented program to extend students who have already achieved the prescribed outcomes and a Learning Enhancement Program to support boys of all capabilities. Our Learning Enhancement Program is an innovative and multi-faceted program which provides a sound basis for excellent support for our boys regardless of their pace of learning.

A strong focus on literacy, numeracy and inquiry equips boys with the skills to use their imagination, communicate, problem solve and make informed, empathetic decisions about personal and social issues.

International Baccalaureate Programme

At Lindfield K–6, we are passionate about providing a learning environment that is challenging, engaging and relevant for our young men. To support this initiative, we are authorised to offer the International Baccalaureate’s (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).

The PYP is a student-centred, inquiry-based learning framework that encourages boys to grow in international-mindedness; become skillful learners; develop a deep understanding of the world around them and learn to take action in their own education. It encourages deep conceptual understanding, action-oriented and reflective learning and global-mindedness.

In addition to addressing all key learning areas prescribed by the NSW Board of Studies Syllabus, the PYP provides significant specialist learning experiences in Religious Education, Art, Music, Languages (Mandarin) and Health and Physical Education.

The PYP provides the perfect framework for the teaching and learning goals at Lindfield because it focuses on deep learning; allows students to create true links between subject areas; develops skillful, action-oriented and reflective learners; and promotes students who are internationally-minded and aware of ‘real life’ issues, both locally and globally.


At Newington College we believe that technology plays an integral role in helping students learn.

We see the value of using technology not just as a ‘substitute’ for more traditional learning mediums– say, a laptop replacing pen and paper – but rather to augment, modify and redefine learning activities. We use technology to create new forms of engagement, interaction and growth.

Our teachers use online tools and innovative applications to enrich the boys’ learning, leaving them with skills, tools and ways of thinking that will be beneficial well beyond their schooling at Lindfield.

Students in K – 5 are provided with a Newington owned iPad Air 2 with 64GB of storage and WI-FI only capability that is managed by Newington ICT. Mounted projectors, interactive whiteboards, digital still and video cameras and interactive response systems are a part of learning for every boy.

A learning intranet provides communication and collaboration for boys and teachers and a window into the classroom for parents. Boys also learn about cyber safety and the importance of keeping personal information safe when online.

Co-curricular Activities

Newington College seeks to provide boys with opportunities to develop and excel in all areas. Lindfield Prep offers a wide range of co-curricular programs throughout the year. Boys are encouraged to try new things, to develop their skills and talents in different areas and to showcase their ‘personal best’. Lindfield offers opportunities to shine in sport, performance, competitions and events.

While much of the co-curricular program is built around sport and music, it is not limited to these areas. Teachers and outside groups add diversity and richness, offering various clubs, activities and initiatives for the boys to participate in throughout the year.

These include Interschool chess competitions; a creative and performing arts (CAPA) club; Interschool debating competitions; a public speaking club; a robotics club; a photography club; Milo Cricket; Auskick AFL and a martial arts club.

Now offering the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme
Newington College features the Primary Years Programme (PYP), which is a curriculum framework designed by the International Baccalaureate for students aged 3 to 12 years of age. 
The Programme promotes inquiry-based learning as the vehicle for developing deep conceptual understanding. It seeks to develop the whole person by engaging children in issues of local and global significance, whilst maintaining a focus on key skills.
