Welcome to Elonera Montessori School

Imagine a place where children can explore their world, discover new knowledge and realise their potential – where they really want to come to school each day.

Elonera Montessori School is a whole school offering a joyful life-long approach to learning that prepares children to be self-confident, responsible and successful in our global community.

We provide a stimulating and positive learning environment for ages 2-18 years. Elonera Montessori School is a not-for-profit, non-denominational, internationally-minded organisation that offers quality Montessori education in the Illawarra.

The Elonera Montessori School curriculum is designed to prepare students both for further learning and for life. We have a strongly held set of universal values, including self-respect, respect for others, honesty, integrity, empathy, compassion and sense of international understanding.

Elonera Montessori School is also fully accredited with the IB Organisation as an IB World School and we are excited to be the only school in the Illawarra to be offering the IB Diploma for Years 11 and 12.

Parent Toddler Program

The Elonera Montessori School PTP Cottage is for children aged 18 months to 3 years and their parents, and the activities are designed to meet the developmental needs of the children in this age range.

This specialised and nurturing environment will prepare your child’s growing independence, self-esteem, confidence and concentration span.

The Parent Toddler Program runs 3 morning classes each week.

Children’s House

The Elonera Montessori School Children’s House offers the Montessori program in a dedicated pre-school environment on our main campus site at Mount Ousley.

The Children’s House is separated into two classrooms with a shared outside play area.

It is a registered care pre-school, which means that families can claim a minimum amount of Child Care Benefit (CCB) and operates during the NSW school terms.

Primary

Elonera Montessori School primary is designed for children who preferably, but not necessarily, have attended the traditional Montessori Children’s House.

All subjects from the Children’s House are greatly expanded in the primary. Research is an important aspect of the Primary classrooms and the children explore alone, in cooperative groups and as a class, such subjects as astronomy, geology, physics, evolution, biology and history. As they study, the children begin to perceive the links between these fields and often find that new areas of study open for them.

Mathematics and language also form a pivotal part of the child’s experiences and learning. Concrete Montessori materials facilitate understanding, while a full curriculum embracing all of the elements of a traditional curriculum, approaching them from a Montessori perspective.

Secondary School

Elonera Montessori School now offers both the Higher School Certificate (HSC) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme as options for Years 11 and 12.

As an IB World School, we join a global community of schools that share a common philosophy – a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Elonera Montessori School believes is important for its students.

Students in Years 7 and 8 study all mandatory Board of Studies subjects. All subjects are studied in a two-year cycle, except mathematics, where each student is on an individual program, and Italian, where subjects are offered in year groups. Students in Years 9 and 10 are offered electives in addition to the mandatory Board of Studies subjects. Electives generally offer students the opportunity to pursue and consolidate their interest and skill in a particular area of learning.

After School Care

Elonera Montessori School provides onsite before school and after school care for preschool and primary school students. These services are offered not only to support the busy lifestyle of modern families as high quality child care, but are also an opportunity for children of different stages to connect and enjoy themselves in a relaxed atmosphere.
