Life at Canterbury College

Canterbury College is one of Queensland’s premier co-educational Kindergarten – Year 12 independent day schools located on the south side of Brisbane in Waterford. Canterbury is renowned for its quality of academic, sporting, cultural, service and spiritual programs operating within an Anglican ethos. The College motto "The better prepared the stronger" reflects the ethos of our staff and students in their commitment to achieving successful pastoral and educational outcomes.

A Strong Values Based Culture

Canterbury College has fostered a modern and innovative culture of values education where all students are taught respect, social and environmental responsibility, integrity, compassion, scholarship and community. These values underpin our curriculum and foster a pastoral environment of greater understanding for all students.

Academic Excellence

Canterbury enjoys a proud record of outstanding academic results.
Unlike some schools that reduce their percentage of ATAR-eligible students each year to artificially inflate their results, an average of 82% of Canterbury students are ATAR-eligible each year.

Of these students, we are proud that around 30% achieve an ATAR of 90 or higher.

The results reflect the hard work and commitment Canterbury College staff give to assist all students in achieving their own best possible result. Their dedication to the academic outcomes of students has established the College as one of the leading academic schools on the south side of Brisbane.

Co-Curricular

Canterbury offers one of the most diverse range of co-curricular programs of any independent school in South East Queensland.
Students from Prep onwards are encouraged to participate in an array of sporting, cultural and other pursuits.

Wellbeing

Wellbeing at Canterbury is the encompassing of holistic education and the journey that each member of the College community undertakes as they learn to understand themselves and others, and manage their relationships, lives, work and learning more effectively.
Canterbury advocates a whole school “holistic” approach to wellbeing. This occurs in the creation of positive interpersonal relationships that involve trust, integrity, respect, and compassion, and as a result of the social learning created in working collaboratively and cooperatively with other students, College staff and the wider community.

The framework for this holistic approach is provided by the College’s Vision and Mission and the Wellbeing Blueprint. This vision for wellbeing at Canterbury will allow each student to develop life skills to cope with and engage in an ever-changing world while building their emotional resilience in striving for success and future-readiness.

This framework is also supported by a network of crucial wellbeing staff and formalised by a structured wellbeing curriculum. These staff proactively promote and maintain a supportive, collaborative and inclusive learning community at the College and strive to increase protective factors and reduce risk factors throughout each individuals journey at Canterbury.
