About Us

Abbotsleigh Junior School is a Pre K to Year 12 day and Year 7-12 boarding school for girls, with a reputation for excellence for more than 130 years. It is an independent Anglican school.

Each girl is encouraged to develop her potential in a caring Christian environment by fostering her pursuit of personal and academic excellence. By providing a broad, well balanced education, Abbotsleigh Junior School helps each girl to develop both independence and interdependence, an appreciation of diversity and a philosophy of life which will enable her to be a courageous, constructive and compassionate world citizen with a will to serve.

Early learning

The Early Learning Centre at Abbotsleigh Junior School is a warm and inviting space for boys and girls up to five years of age, while our Transition class is specially designed for girls aged four. Both the ELC and Transition class are based on the Woonona Avenue campus.

Wellbeing

At Abbotsleigh, we understand and recognise the inseparable connection between wellbeing, learning and academic success. We know that wellbeing sits at the heart of effective learning and is an integral part of high quality education, which is why it is of paramount importance at our school.

Girls may join the Junior School in Kindergarten, Year 3, Year 5 or somewhere in between and will always be supported in forming meaningful connections and friendships with peers.

Our Wellbeing Framework is underpinned by our Christian enrichment and our School Values: Respect, Integrity, Persistence, Compassion and Courage. This framework is connected with and complemented by our Deep Learning and Quality Teaching Framework to enable each girl to be the best she can be.

Our focus is on the ‘whole girl’ and through our Wellbeing Framework we strive to enhance her academic, social, emotional, spiritual and physical wellbeing from Pre-K through to Year 12.

Environment

Abbotsleigh Junior School has light filled, flexible learning spaces with ready access to technology. There is also a specialist art centre featuring a stimulating, purpose built space with a comfortable mezzanine area for art appreciation and computer assisted design. Abbotsleigh Junior School also features a well resourced library, assembly hall, computer lab, music centre, drama facilities, science room, play areas, tennis courts and a swimming pool.

Outside the classroom

There are a range of activities in which girls can participate outside the classroom at Abbotsleigh Junior School. These range from musical ensembles and choirs, to clubs and sport. Clubs cover such areas as debating, environment, robotics, service, Tournament of Minds and a student newspaper. Sports offered throughout the year include football (Years 4-6), minkey (Year 4 and 5) and hockey (Year 6), basketball, netball and touch football (Years 4-6) and tennis (Years 5-6).

Why Abbotsleigh?

Since 1885, Abbotsleigh has been inspiring girls to lead a purposeful life, to thrive, and to make a positive impact on the world of today and tomorrow. We champion equality for women and girls.

Our girls really love coming to school each day. They know that being at an all-girls school, they can be free to be who they are, and to grow and develop as unique individuals.

By giving every girl the opportunity to do more, she has the ability to be more.
