Welcome to Blue Mountains Grammar School

Established in 1918 and celebrating our centenary this year (2018), Blue Mountains Grammar School was built on a tradition of Christian values and academic excellence. Blue Mountains Grammar School has two campuses which serve the Blue Mountains' community: Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 at Wentworth Falls, and Pre-Kindergarten to Year 4 at Valley Heights.

At BMGS, every student has opportunities to grow in their learning and leadership, experience success, enjoy themselves, make friends, be involved in a myriad of co-curricular and leadership opportunities, and be nurtured in a safe, inclusive and caring Christian environment.

We want our students to be themselves, at their best.

Academic Excellence

BMGS has an enviable reputation for academic excellence, and our results have positioned BMGS as the leading independent School in our region.

Teachers who are passionate and enthusiastic about their subject areas encourage passionate and enthusiastic responses from their students. These two elements bring a focused, interested and engaged dynamic to each of our classrooms.

We are particularly proud that our HSC honours continue to be equally shared between girls and boys, a trend that is uncommon in co-educational schools, yet has been sustained at BMGS over many years.

We are proud to offer our students a world class education, in the heart of the mountains.

Christian faith, Pastoral Care and Student Wellbeing

BMGS provides a caring, holistic education, equipping individuals with personal excellence and Christian integrity. Our focus is on the need for students to be able to make personal meaning from study and learning, to develop their thinking dispositions and to appreciate that learning is a life-long process, whilst at the same time developing their individual character and sharing their own unique humanity with others.

BMGS values are grounded in the Anglican tradition and students attend Chapel and Religious & Values Education (RAVE) classes weekly.

At BMGS every student is nurtured and encouraged to flourish as an individual.

Unique Opportunities and Co-curricular Activities

BMGS students enjoy opportunities found nowhere else in the Mountains.

A Performing Arts stream operates from Year 5 through to Year 8, thence by electives (Drama and/or Music).

A Cultural Studies stream (French and Japanese) operates in Years 7 and 8, thence by elective choice.

BMGS is located in a unique world heritage environment.
Our comprehensive Wilderness Education program operates from Years 2 to 10, with elective courses in Years 9 and 10 and the opportunity to undertake all levels of the Duke Of Edinburgh Award.

There are, on average, 25 co-curricular activities offered to students in the course of the year. The co-curricular program challenges students to take the opportunity to try new experiences in a safe and supportive environment.

At BMGS, it is not only 'the best' who make the team, or the ensemble, or the squad. It is those who are prepared to commit to their activity and give their best effort at all times.

Cultures of Thinking - The Harvard Project

As part of our aim to offer our students a world class education, the School implemented Cultures of Thinking, a project of Harvard University. This unique program reflects global research around the values, attitudes and skills needed for 21st century learning. BMGS introduced this revolutionary educational program in 2011, across all Year groups and campuses. BMGS teachers are trained in this unique program, which is a key part of the strong educational framework on which our students' successful completion of their HSC rests.
