Welcome to Shore

Helping heads, hearts and souls flourish.

Shore is an independent, Anglican day and Boarding School for boys, with an Early Learning Centre to Year 2 for girls and boys.

Since our foundation in 1889, our Christian faith and values at Shore have always steadfastly guided our holistic approach to education and Pastoral Care.

Intelligence, courage and empathy are the bedrock of the character we strive to help build.

Our commitment is to ensure that every one of the students in our care receives a holistic education that prepares them for whatever path they may choose to follow in life.

This philosophy requires us to deliver the highest standards of teaching and learning in the classroom, the development of character through a broad range of co-curricular activities and community service, and the opportunity to explore the values of our Christian faith as they determine their own spiritual beliefs and worldview.

In these endeavours, we are supported by dedicated, highly qualified teachers and staff, world-class facilities, and an ethos that binds and inspires us.

Education at Shore

A Shore education is dedicated to realising every aspect of your child’s potential – intellectual, emotional, and spiritual.

Our mission at Shore, guided by our Christian values, is to ensure that every child receives the support, guidance and instruction they need to become the very best version of themselves – a philosophy and path that will take them from the classroom to the world at large and their role in the broader community.

Throughout their life journey, young people will face many opportunities and challenges. One sure source of continuity and stability are the values and principles we teach, that will help guide prepare them for their journeys.

We do this by delivering a broad academic curriculum, supported by exceptional Co-Curricular and Pastoral Care programmes, at our Early Learning Centre and K,1,2 campus at Northbridge and our Preparatory and Senior School campus at North Sydney.

Nurturing Academic Excellence

Shore has one of Australia’s leading High Potential Learners (HPL) programmes. We recognise that every child is unique, and we are proud to offer a specialised programme designed to support those who show significant promise. We are committed to identifying and nurturing the exceptional academic potential that lies within our students from the very beginning of their educational journey. This programme allows these young minds to flourish and reach their full potential.

Co-Curricular

A holistic education requires skills and challenges outside of the classroom.

At Shore, our Co-Curricular programme is a vital component in an education that seeks to enhance our students’ development beyond academic achievement.

Academically, these activities can enhance learning by applying classroom concepts in real-world contexts. Success in these endeavours can then circle back to improved self-confidence that supports academic efforts in the classroom.

We provide a very wide range of opportunities that includes sport, music, drama, cadets, debating and various clubs, all of which help to foster a well-rounded skill set that is crucial for personal growth and future success.

These activities improve social skills by providing opportunities for teamwork, communication and leadership. Through group projects or team sports, students learn to collaborate, resolve conflicts and lead others.

Engaging in pursuits outside of the classroom helps students manage stress, build resilience and develop a positive self-image. The sense of achievement from mastering a new skill or contributing to a team can boost confidence while providing a healthy outlet for self-expression. Furthermore, these activities often spark interests and passions that might not be explored within the standard curriculum.

This exploration can lead to discovering new hobbies and career interests, giving the boys a broader perspective on their future possibilities.

Service Learning

Shore aims to build capacity and understanding in our boys to serve outwardly in our community, as part of our Christian ethos and aims as a school.

Our Service Learning programme inspires them to volunteer their time and efforts for the benefit of others. In doing so, they will learn and live by the core values of the service ideal – respect, humility, integrity, care and gratitude.

The programme offers a range of learning activities that extend beyond the classroom. Our younger students in Kindergarten and Prep School visit nursing homes while Senior School students participate in a range of camps and volunteer in community service initiatives. These are enriching environments in which they can develop a broad mindset that builds teamwork, empathy, compassion, inclusivity and a sense of community.

The programme is conducted by the Teachers in the younger year groups in the Prep School and the Houses and Tutor Groups in the Senior School, and create the opportunity for the students to participate in the work of non-profit organisations including, but not limited to Rough Edges, Cancer Council, the Salvation Army, World Vision and Anglicare.

Scholarships

The School offers a small number of scholarships for boys entering in Year 7 and for boys progressing from the Preparatory School into the Secondary School. The Scholarships are based on the ability of students to provide academic leadership within the School as well as the likelihood of boys benefiting from an education at Shore.
