About Shore Grammar School

Sydney Church of England Grammar School, customarily known as SHORE Grammar, has campuses at North Sydney and Northbridge in New South Wales.

SHORE Grammar is an independent, Anglican day and boarding school for boys.

Established in 1889 by the Church of England, SHORE Grammar currently caters for approximately 1600 students from kindergarten to year 12, including 200 boarders from years 6 to 12. SHORE Grammar is co-educational from Early Learning Centre to year 2, and these students are housed on a separate campus in suburban Northbridge.

SHORE Grammar has a non-selective enrolment policy.

Life and Education at SHORE Grammar

SHORE Grammar’s dynamic tradition is founded on authentic and transformative Christian faith, with emphases on engaged rigour in academic work, relational service of others, growth in character, personal best in games and co-curricular activities.

SHORE Grammar aims to foster a learning community for its students and staff which:
• Promotes a Christian understanding of the world and society in which we live
• Pursues and celebrates academic performance in a culture of learning and thinking
• Challenges all to be responsible citizens with an attitude of service to others
• Welcomes new experience and learning at all stages of life
• Lives according to the Christ-like virtues of humility, perseverance, courage and love of others
• Develops individual gifts and talents and cultivates the habits of successful team membership.

Facilities and Grounds

SHORE Grammar’s Main Campus stands on a site of just over eight hectares on a hill-top two hundred metres from North Sydney railway and bus station with magnificent views of the Harbour and the City of Sydney. The facilities at SHORE Grammar include a 500-seat auditorium, the Boer War Contingent Memorial Library, an Information Technology department, and the Chapel. Nearby are four Boarding Houses and a central Dining Hall.

For organised games at North Sydney there is one oval, numerous cricket nets, tennis and basketball courts, as well as a fully equipped physical education complex with an eight-lane 25-metre swimming pool and separate diving-pool.
At Northbridge, SHORE has one of Sydney’s finest ovals and five other full-sized ovals, as well as tennis courts, pavilions and dressing rooms.

Preparatory School

SHORE Preparatory School aims to develop each child’s natural talents within a Christian, supportive, educational environment. Our programme is based around the belief that childhood is a unique and valuable stage of life.

Staff and parents at SHORE Preparatory School work closely together to ensure practical and relevant opportunities are available for the boys to progress in these important developmental years of their education.

Senior School

SHORE Grammar is registered and accredited to present students for both the Record of School Achievement and the Higher School Certificate.

SHORE Grammar aims to provide breadth as well as depth in its curriculum. Courses offered allow a degree of specialisation but allow boys to keep their future options open and some scope in following their own particular interests.

A high proportion of SHORE Grammar boys undertake university courses while others enter the business world, trades, armed services and some return to the rural sector.

In recent years students have been placed in the top ten in the State in a variety of subjects. And SHORE also regularly produces boys who perform in the highest percentile band in the HSC examinations.

Beyond the Classroom

At SHORE Grammar, students are encouraged to engage in life beyond the classroom, in the areas of performing arts, sport and service activities.

The Performing Arts at SHORE Grammar continue to grow rapidly, in the breadth of activities offered. There are a number of clubs and activities at SHORE Grammar, including the oldest student run newspaper in Australia, Photography Club, Mock Trials, Chess, and Duke of Edinburgh.

The sporting programme of the School is a vital part of the learning and development process of every SHORE boy. It is compulsory for all boys to participate in games until their final year and the majority of final year students continue to be involved in the sporting program.

Every boy at SHORE Grammar participates in Service Activities. From Year 7 boys are introduced to a range of service activities through their respective House under the guidance of their Housemaster and Tutors.
