St Andrew's School

About St Andrew's

St Andrew’s School was established in 1850. It is a leading independent, co-educational primary school providing excellence in education from the early years to Year 7. We offer a nurturing environment which encourages happy and successful learning.

St Andrew’s School focuses on the critical skills of numeracy and literacy within an innovative and imaginative curriculum. Our programmes provide a framework which will equip each student with the skills to enjoy a lifetime of discovery and learning.

At St Andrew’s School, we listen to our parents and encourage them to take an active part in the life of our School. Our teachers, staff and parents work in partnership to enrich the experiences of the children and sustain our community.

Teaching & Learning

At St Andrew’s School, we believe that the greatest learning occurs within a teacher/student relationship of mutual trust and respect. The individual learning styles of our students are sensitively and imaginatively supported.

Building on their ELC experience, children in Reception through to Year 7, focus on the Areas of Learning using the International Baccalaureate Primary Years and Middle Years frameworks.

Students at St Andrew’s School have the opportunity to continue their secondary education in national and international schools offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma. In addition the students are well prepared for entry into secondary schools within State and National systems.

Early Learning Centre

Children are eligible to enter our Early Learning Centre at 3 ½ years and may attend 3, 4 or 5 full days per week during term time, from 8.15am to 3.15pm from Monday to Friday. Before School Care is available from 7.15am and After School Care is available until 6.00pm. With Vacation Care available, the Early Learning Centre is open 48 weeks per year and is an Approved Provider of Child Care. Eligible parents can claim the Child Care Benefit.

Our International Students

The internationalisation of education enriches the life of St Andrew’s School by promoting an exchange of ideas and strengthening cultural understanding.

St Andrew’s School has an established programme for international students aged from 9 – 13 years, registered with CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students). Our focus rests on an immersion English programme that embeds learning in all curriculum areas. Students may join the School community for periods between one month and one year.

Extended Curriculum

Our Co-Curricular programme is based on the philosophy that personal growth occurs when children’s experiences are broadened. Activities include: art, chess, debating and public speaking, drama, Italian, Chinese, dancesport and classical dance. Sports offered include cricket, tennis, T-ball, softball, basketball, netball, soccer, football, hockey and gymnastics.

The enriched Music programme at St Andrew’s School is much acclaimed. At any point in time, more than two thirds of students are active participants. The programme includes
• Choir, String Orchestra and Concert Bands
• Brass, Flute, Saxophone, Clarinet, Percussion and Cello ensembles
• Handbells, table bells and recorder.
• Each year a musical is presented by the Year 4 classes.

The emphasis of the St Andrew’s School Physical Education programme is on participation and enjoyment. To foster the development of positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle, our students learn basic skills through involvement in a variety of sports. Students from Years 3 - 7 participate in the School’s swimming and athletic carnivals and Years 4-7 have the opportunity to participate in interschool sporting competition.

Our Outdoor Education programme aims to develop independence and the ability to live co-operatively in a group away from home. Students in Years 4-7 participate in a series of camping experiences. Additional benefits of the programme include heightened awareness of our environment and opportunities for character development, decision making, problem solving and leadership.

Reception Entry

St Andrew’s will continue to have two Reception entry points each year as we believe that by having two intakes, one in Term 1 and the second in July, we are able to meet the educational needs of the children
