Why Enrol?

The International French School of Sydney is part of a network which enables families to benefit from a continuous schooling from preschool to Year 12 for their children, within the context of professional mobility.
The students at the school engage in a challenging, rigorous and academic program of study in order to become knowledgeable, inquiring and caring young people who are fully bilingual.

Unique

the International French School of Sydney follows the French school curriculum, prepares students for the French examinations (Brevet and the French Baccalaureate) and takes into account the developments of the French education system. Yet, given the Australian context and taking into account its clientele, the International French School of Sydney encourages diversity through the study of the English language, as well as promoting an awareness of the Australian culture, society, history and geography. Although English language studies occupy an important place in the school curriculum, French remains the first language of communication. Nevertheless, the school also offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in English for senior students.

Academic, Diverse, Intercultural

the International French School of Sydney follows the northern hemisphere academic calendar, that is, the school year begins in August and ends in June of the following year and the educational programs at the school are bilingual, rigorous and academic.

In Preschool and Primary Classes at the International French School of Sydney (Classes de maternelle & classes primaires), students are introduced to the fundamentals of learning in the preschool which is based on the French model but also satisfies the requirements of NSW Community Services. The primary curriculum expands upon students’ learning through a focus on bilingualism and introduces them to various extra-curricular activities aimed at nurturing their development musically, artistically and creatively.

In Lower Secondary Classes at the International French School of Sydney - Years 6 to 9 (Collège), the academic focus is maintained with the introduction of additional languages like Latin, German, Spanish and Mandarin being included for study to broaden students’ intercultural experience. Furthermore, diversity in the curriculum through debating and competitive sports combine to enrich students’ learning experiences.

In Senior Secondary Classes at the International French School of Sydney - Years 10 to 12 (Lycée), students elected to study one of two strands which lead to the award of the French Baccalaureate: ES (Sciences économiques et sociales) and S(Sciences). In the senior years, if students prefer to follow an English program of study, the International Baccalaureate offers a rigorous but rewarding alternative for students. Both the French Baccalaureate and the International Baccalaureate are universally recognized for entry into university.

French as a Foreign Language

Special support in French as a foreign language (FLE – Français langue étrangère) is offered by teachers to students in need. Preparatory classes for the DELF (Diplôme d’Études de Langue Française) are also organised for students who have reached the necessary level. Preparatory classes for DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are offered to students who hold a DELF certificate.

International Baccalaureate

In January each year, students of the International French School of Sydney have the options of enrolling in either the Seconde-program or the Year 10 program. Students enrolled in the Seconde-stream study the curriculum leading to the French Baccalaureate. Students enrolled in Year 10 study a curriculum designed in preparation for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.
In Years 11 and 12, students at the International French School of Sydney continue their chosen options from Year 10. The students in Years 11 and 12 (English-language stream) prepare for the International Baccalaureate.
At the International French School of Sydney, our students complete their courses in English in very small class sizes. Our students can also excel in French and receive a Bilingual Diploma and for those without a French background, there are classes available for all levels- from beginners to advanced. Plus, there is also the possibility of learning Spanish, German or even Mandarin!
All students study six (6) subjects: English, French, Economics, Geography or History, Biology, Chemistry or Physics, Mathematics and one other subject of their own choice (from a selection of Visual Arts, Music, or another language or science).
What makes the IB unique is that which ties all these subjects together: a course in the Theory of Knowledge, a 4 000 word Extended Essay and CAS- Creativity, Action, Service.
