Parents & Teachers Working Together

The Personalised Tutorial System at Montgrove College is the most distinctive means to reinforce the work of parents.

Students at Montgrove College are assigned an individual tutor who is a member of the school teaching staff. The tutor meets regularly with the student, with the student's teachers, and with the parents. In this way parents, teachers and students co-operate in effective goal setting.

This tutor assists each student's academic progress and character development.

The tutor's rapport and friendship with the student and family are fundamental to the educational process.

Apart from formal parent-tutor interviews, the tutor is available to talk with parents whenever necessary. The parent-tutor relationship is a natural means to ensure that home and school work together effectively.

Parental Involvement

Parental involvement with Montgrove College signifies the willingness of parents to take advantage of the means which the College offers to assist them in their task as primary educators of their children.

An ongoing programme of parent functions which includes talks, workshops and family education courses at Montgrove College, provides parents with the opportunity for personal enrichment and development.

Character Development

The emphasis placed on character development at is a major feature of Montgrove College. An ongoing Human Virtues Programme fosters the development of qualities such as sincerity, industriousness, order, cheerfulness, generosity and service to others. This aspect of the education offered is the basis for fostering the full development of the student's character.

The leadership and community service programs at Montgrove College complement the focus of character education. This is based on the conviction that leaders must be persons of integrity, with a genuine commitment to serve others.

Spiritual Development

Montgrove College offers students a solid grounding in the Catholic faith as the basis for a simple and deep love of God. Students are encouraged to live their faith with a genuine spirit of freedom and commitment. The College emphasises the primary role that parents play in their children's spiritual development.

The chaplains of Montgrove College are priests of Opus Dei, a personal Prelature of the Catholic Church whose aim is to assist all people to live the universal call to holiness.

Students conduct guided tours throughout the day. Staff and parents are available to answer any questions you may have about the school's aims and features. A talk on our unique approach to personalised education is given.

MONTGROVE INFANTS

Boys and Girls attend Montgrove Infants for the K - 2 years. Boys then transfer to another PARED School Wollemi College at Werrington, which caters for boys Years 3 - 12, with the girls continuing at Montgrove College K-10 (in 2014). Montgrove College will continue to add a class each year as the girls progress to Year 12.

CURRICULUM

Montgrove College acknowledges the individual needs of students and provision is made to extend and support their growth in all areas, academic, physical and spiritual.

The Infants School structure comprises two co-educational classes for each year, K to Year 2.

The educational curriculum includes the six Key Learning Areas prescribed by the NSW Board of Studies:- English; Mathematics; Human Society and its Environment; Science and Technology; Creative Arts; Personal Development, Health and Physical Education.

While the school recognises the primary role that parents have in the spiritual development of their children, students are offered instruction in the Catholic faith.

Students learn Spanish from Kindergarten with further immersion in the Spanish language during sport.

Students from Kindergarten have access to computers in their classroom and in the computer laboratory. IT is integrated in other KLAs to develop students' expertise and awareness of information technology.

Learning support programs include lateral extension for gifted students and support for students with learning difficulties.

SPALDING

Spalding is a powerful multi-sensory, phonics based language arts programme for teaching reading, spelling, writing and comprehension. Students quickly become competent and enthusiastic readers, spellers and writers. At Montgrove, Spalding processes are integrated into a well structured daily programme.

VIRTUES PROGRAM

The character development of students is aided by the practice of virtues which are taught to students as part of the curriculum and should be reinforced at home. Students have a 'Motto Book' which explains the virtues as a way of living. It is incorporated in their weekly homework.

One virtue is emphasised each week and students are required along with their parents to set a goal for themselves for the week to practice that virtue.

Values for Australian Schooling are included in this program.
